Interview with DJ MORALES

When and why did you begin to produce music?

In 1995 I started to like dance music, especially megamixes and the way of they manipulate songs.

But was on 1999 with "Eiffel 65 - Blue" when I understand that dance songs have verse, melody.. well designed sounds and not only a easy refrain to mix on a megamix. Since then I try to make my own productions with no real success all this time.

I have enjoyed learning. Some months ago with Jonathan and with Paolo Mantero support we have released our first single "Sarah".

I hope to edit new songs on October on Armonica Records.

What music styles are you listening to other than what you produce?

I don't look for other styles but I like to listen to some interesting songs that get my attention like Bloodhound Gang,

Eminem, A-ha, Daft Punk, Will Smith...

Who is/are you favourite artist(s)?

I like a lot of Warp brothers, Gigi D'Agostino, Danijay, Lazzard, Mantero, Jordi Carreras.. I can't choose just one of them because I like house, dance, and progressive - techno. In general I like the artists that don’t copy to others.

What do you think is the future for Italo Dance music?

There is not a clear future for it, at last for these artists like us that are trying to rise. We have to do a hard job to do a great hit than artists of 90's do. Seem like all is invented. Suppose that people will get tired of house and so many people will return to the energy that dance music transmits. The best should be that radio stations play all styles... but always is the same or they play to many dance music or to many house music.

I trust this situation will change on future, there are many fans that buy and follow dance music.

What do you like to do on your spare time?

I like to bike on mountain and field. It does inspire me on composition of new melodies. My great hobby is to produce music when I have time because music is not my first occupation.

What are your plans for the future? style, project etc.

I have a lot of plans about music but I don't have enough time to make it real. I'm trying to do Hard-Trance as Night Waves, one of my pseudonyms. Recently I have made a remix for the new maxi of my partner JONATHAN - The Top OF The World (Night Waves Remix), a very commercial version that I'm sure that you'll like. Also I do pop music with a friends and a pop producer. And that's all I have planed at the moment.

What news can you reveal for us about your future productions?

I can reveal that in October we'll release a new song of DJ Morales vs. Jonathan Varela, it will be a part of some armonica records compilation but I doubt if it will be released as maxi. That's it because I don't have the time to be more involved on music.
